Local History Adds To Meaning Of Independence Day

Special Event In Rome

The Mohawk Valley played an important part in the war for American independence from Great Britain. The Battle of Oriskany, the stand taken at Fort Stanwix and the allegiance formed between the colonials and the members of the Iroquois Confederacy, were vital to the success that resulted in the formation of the United States. On the Fourth of July, some of that history was honored in Rome.
