Legislators Vote to Keep Oneida County Sales Tax 8.75%

County legislators held a special meeting on Monday devoted to the county sales tax rate.

The legislature voted to maintain the current sales tax rate of 8.75 percent.  It’s one of the highest in the state.  The county executive says the rate is not going up but this is all part of the governmental process they must fulfill.

“We’ve done that over the years because we’ve tried to keep property taxes at their extreme lowest level.  We have two sources of income in county government–we have sales tax, we have property tax.  The last couple of years in particular I’ve kept the property tax levy at 0,” says Anthony Picente, Oneida County Executive.

Oneida County is tied with New York City for the highest county sales tax.
