Legal Fight Over The Olbiston


A 2017 Utica Codes Department inspection of the Olbiston apartment building, on Genesee Street, showed that many renovations to be done to the 19th century structure. The first item on that list? The roof, which needs to be completely redone. Estimations for the roofs repairs come in around $1.5 million. The New York State Supreme Court ruled that the renovations need to be completed by November of 2019. Through Oneida County Social Services department and other agencies, the City of Utica is working to secure housing for the current tennants of the Olbiston.
