UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A late-night house fire on Sunset Avenue on Wednesday, August 16 has sent one firefighter to the hospital.

Utica firefighters responded to a structure fire at 951 Sunset Avenue just before midnight. Upon arrival, firefighters say that there was heavy fire found on the first and second floors of the structure, as well as the attic. They also received a report from bystanders that there was someone still located on the second floor of the structure. Searches were immediately initiated, though no victims were found inside.

Fire extinguishment operations were initiated as well, though firefighters were transitioned to defensive operations as fire consumed the attic space. One firefighter was injured in the blaze and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Utica Fire Marshal’s office. We will have more details as they become available.
