James Street Shooting Victim Identified


UTICA NY, (WUTR-TV) — Utica police have identified that 42-year-old Cleastore E. Jefferson of Utica has died following surgery of injuries related to the gunshots.


On Tuesday, around 8:20 p.m. Utica Police units were called to 159 James Street regarding a shots fired incident. Upon arrival they located Jefferson lying on the sidewalk suffering from several gunshots wounds in the leg and once in the abdomen.

The first arriving officers applied a tourniquet to Jefferson until the Utica Fire Department arrived and took over emergency care. Jefferson was immediately transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, and passed away in the hospital.

Utica police have a person of interest, but no arrests have been made at this point.
