UTICA–The ongoing back-and-forth between proponents and opponents of a new downtown hospital has now reached a new level.
Two recent social media posts seen on the ‘No Hospital Downtown’ Facebook page mention criminal incidents that happened in the surrounding area in 2019.
The posts make the unfounded claim that these incidents indicate a new trend of crime within the proposed hospital footprint; arguing that the location for the hospital could be a safety risk for medical staff.
Both incidents referenced in the Facebook posts did not take place in downtown Utica.
The ‘New MV Hospital’ Facebook group has responded.
“Our groups feel strongly that, not only these latest posts — but the general tenor on the No Hospital Facebook page and its other social media sites — is objectionable and unworthy of our community.”John Swann, Executive Vice President of The Community Foundation
Swann told Eyewitness News that other community organizations, such as Mohawk Valley EDGE and the Genesis Group plan on releasing their own responses to the Facebook posts.
