UTICA–Heavy weekend rainfall caused the Ballou’s Creek to rise, underneath Bleecker Street; raising the road in the process.
Eastbound traffic between Third and Mohawk Streets came in contact with the bump in the road, observed late Monday morning.
City Deputy Engineer Michael Mahoney says “there is some soil that is getting sucked into the storm line,” although there is no present chance the road will cave–though it will need to be rebuilt.
The electric subway system underneath the road has dropped, causing “severe damage,” Mahoney said.
“I would estimate the electrical damage–I have a pretty good number on that already–is probably around $300,000.”Michael Mahoney, City Deputy Engineer
