A $6 million grant ishelping some unemployed New Yorkers get back to work. The state received afederal grant to help those that have been unemployed for 20 or more weeks getback to work. Through the grant employers can get up to 90% of the wages paidwhile a new hire is training. To date the grant has helped 81 unemployed in sixarea counties get back to work.
ExecutiveDirector of Workforce Investment Boards Alice Savino says, “This gives theemployer an opportunity and an incentive to take a chance on someone who hasbeen out of work for four or five months.”
There is about 4 million dollars left for the state toaward and they’re giving that money to qualifying businesses that apply.
