Yesterday afternoon, Oneida County Executive, Anthony Picente stated that the region was ready for phase two because it met all the criteria. But last night, Picente held another quickly called press conference stating that Governor Cuomo said we could not go into phase two because he wanted experts to assess the Mohawk Valley Region. The five eligible upstate regions did receive the go-ahead from the governor at 1 p.m. today.
As we start phase two there are 28 new positive cases in the county, seven nursing home related bringing the total to 979. There are no new fatalities, the number remains at 46. There are 365 active cases and 569 cases have been resolved.
Picente said he is pleased the governor stuck with his original decision and we can start phase two, however the communication needs to be better.
Picente spoke with Governor Cuomo’s budget director about having a communication plan in place and businesses who are scheduled to open in the next phase should have all the criteria they need in regards to re-open well in advance not the night before.
He is hopeful the communication will be better for entering into phase two.
