Golden Knights take Sbisa in expansion draft

News

The roster for the Las Vegas Golden Knights is in, and no former or current Utica Comets were chosen.

There was speculation the Golden Knights were after former Comet Brendan Gaunce, but he ends up staying.

Instead, Las Vegas selected Canucks defenseman Luca Sbisa.  Sbisa had been with Vancouver since 2014 when he came over in a trade with the Ducks involving Ryan Kessler.

Sbisa never appeared in a game with the Comets and it’s unclear as of now what impact this will have, if any in Utica.

Sbisa appeared in all 82 games for the Canucks last season scoring two goals to go along with 11 assists.  In three seasons, he finished with seven goals and 25 assists.

Other notable players chosen by Las Vegas include James Neal, Cody Eakin, Tomas Nosek, Marc Andre-Fleury, Jon Merrill and Oscar Lindberg.

The Golden Knights will face the Canucks in preseason play on September 17th in Vancouver.
