ANNSVILLE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A motor vehicle accident in Annsville on Friday night sent a car airborne and one person to the hospital, according to the Oneida County Sheriff.

Officers responded to the accident on Main Street in the town of Annsville at approximately 10:56 pm on Friday, November 10. Upon further investigation, sheriffs say that 18-year-old Cameron O’Neil of Camden was driving northbound on Main Street in the town.

Police say that O’Neil then fell asleep at the wheel, at which point his vehicle exited the roadway and passed through the front lawn of a residence. The car then continued through a metal barricade fence and became airborne. After it landed, the vehicle went down a 20-foot embankment, where it came to rest upside down in a nearby creek and submerged in the water.

O’Neil then removed himself from the vehicle and walked to a nearby house for assistance. He was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and issued a citation for moving from his lane unsafely. O’Neil will answer his charges in the Town of Annsville Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Taberg Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance and Mike’s Auto of Rome.
