Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act

News

The proposed legislation is called the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act, and it could hurt farms across New York State. The legislation wants to create a labor union for farmworkers, gaurunteeing  time and a half pay for every hour worked in a single day over 8 hours, and  24 hours of consecutive rest at least once a week and more. These changes could negatively impact farms, and those who work on farms who are not otherwise part of the immediate owners family. Hours could be cut, and farms could end up laying off people due to overtime pay. Eyewitness News spoke with Candella’s Farm and Greenhouses in Marcy to learn more about the legislations local impact. Eyewitness News reporter Parker Tully brings us more.
