The Utica College baseball team rallied from a 4-0 first inning deficit to down the Hilbert Hawks 8-6. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-0 at home on the season and 13-11 overall.
The Pioneers entered the bottom of the fifth trailing 5-2, but erupted for four runs in the frame to take a 6-5 lead. Charles McAllister put Utica College in front for good with a sac-fly to score Ben Julian. Utica added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning.
The Vancouver Canucks have agreed to terms with 19-year-old Swedish forward Jonathan Dahlen on an entry-level contract. Dahlen scored 25 goals and added 19 assists last season for Timra of Sweden’s second-tier hockey league, Allsvenskan.
He won the “Golden Cage” award as the league’s best junior player. Reports say Dahlen has a clause in his contract where if he doesn’t make the Canucks, he’ll have the ability to return to Sweden.
Will Smith’s widow Racquel released a statement saying she is extremely disappointed with Cardell Hayes’ 25-year prison sentence.
Smith added Hayes’ time behind bars doesn’t reflect the amount of pain and suffering her family had to go through because of his actions. Hayes faced a maximum of 60 years in jail for shooting and killing Utica native and former NFL star Will Smith last April.
