UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — This afternoon Utica’s Local Planning Committee and members of the community gathered at the thINCubator for a review of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative project. Dr. Laura Cassamento, Co-Chair of the committee, says that today’s meeting was geared towards presenting the DRI’s draft strategies and getting feedback from the public on project proposals.
“Today we’re going to get some more information on public input which is really important. The other thing that’re going to do, we’ve asked for more information on some of the projects so we’ll get updated on the affirmation that we asked for. And then lastly, we’ll get some conceptual streetscape designs. No descisons have been made over that but we’re just going to present some designs and actually some designs I think will be presented tonight at the public session as well. So those are the things that we’re going to look at today. That’s what we’re going to accomplish.” – Dr. Laura Cassamento, Co-Chair, Utica’s Loal Planning Committee
Although the committee makes the final decision about what projects will be included in their strategic investment plan for New York state, Laura says the community’s input an important part it.
“We really want too know where the public sees an impact because this is really all about getting the best impact that you can possibly get for 10 million dollars. It’s important for us to know how the public feels about that impact. So, tonight later on at the public session some things will be laid out and the public will have another opportunity to say I like this, I don’t like this type of thing. We need to know where the public stands.” – Dr. Laura Cassamento, Co-Chair, Utica’s Loal Planning Committee
The last public meeting will be held in the same location at 2 p.m. on March 2nd.
