Crash Victim Dies From Injuries In Monday Accident

The driver of a pickup truck that hit a tree on Route 8 in Deerfield Monday afternoon has died from his injuries. New York State Police report that Gerald Cady, 79, of Cold Brook, passed away Monday evening at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, from injuries he sustained in the crash.

According to the State Police, Cady was driving a pickup northbound on Route 8 when his truck crossed into the southbound lane and went off the west shoulder of the road. The truck struck a tree on the driver side of the vehicle. Cady had to be extricated from the truck by the Deerfield Fire Department. He was flown to SUNY Upstate Medical by a LifeNet helicopter, where he passed away Monday evening.

A 7 year old passenger was in the truck and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica by Kunkle Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Poland Fire Department assisted in setting up the helicopter landing zone. The investigation into the accident continues.
