COVID Positives Slightly Increase in Oneida County

COVID-19 Information

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — Over the past 2 weeks Oneida County has seen as many as 55 new COVID cases a day. Though it hasn’t been consistent, Public Health Director Dan Gilmore says this increase could be a number of reasons.

“It could be post Easter, Passover holidays indication of gatherings. Or, it could be because it’s about the same time as for spring breaks for many colleges and schools.” – Dan Gilmore, Public Health Director, Oneida County

Gilmore says it could also be due to more testing. “With the new guidance that’s coming out the New York State Department of Health and the governor’s office, there’s been more of a call for testing and when you increase that pool it would increase the amount of positive cases.” – Dan Gilmore, Public Health Director, Oneida County

In Oneida County, many of these new positives are younger people. Specifically those in their 30’s and younger.

“One reason could be the weather’s getting nicer and younger people, young adults like to do more outdoor and indoor activities together.” – Dan Gilmore, Public Health Director, Oneida County

Getting the vaccine has become a lot easier and the county has several locations with appointments. Yesterday they announced free transportation to and from their COVID pods for all county residents.

“So, that’s very important where we’re trying to reach people that have no way to travel to get their vaccination.” – Dan Gilmore, Public Health Director, Oneida County
