COVID-19 Daily Briefing in Oneida County: Monday, April 6th, Morning


ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — As of Sunday April 5th, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente confirmed 9 new positive cases of COVID-19, with the county total now at 95. Of those positive cases 15 people have been hospitalized, 2 have passed away and 19 cases have been resolved. 

The daily briefing with Picente and the Oneida County Health Development is scheduled for 3 p.m. That will be live on our stations WUTR and WFXV and streaming on our website

On April 5th the Herkimer County government said they have 27 positive cases of COVID-19. 2 patients have been hospitalized and 3 have passed away from the virus.

On April 5th the Otsego County Department of Health said they have 29 confirmed cases. 3 patients are hospitalized, one person passed away and 6 patients have recovered.  

The New York Emerson College/Nexstar Poll asked 1000 New Yorkers their thoughts about how the government is handling the Coronavirus pandemic. 

60% of residents said that either they, someone in their household has lost their job due to the crisis. 71% said that they approve of how governor Cuomo has handled the outbreak. 17% disapprove and 12% are neutral. 

They were also asked which is their greater concern, health or finances. 78% said their health and 22% finances.

In an update on Sunday April 5th from Governor Cuomo’s website, he said that the federal government is deploying 1000 medical professionals to New York to help out with the state’s overflow of COVID-19 patients.

He also said that the state received 1000 ventilators, donated by the Joseph and Clara Tsai foundation and the Chinese government. An additional 140 ventilators were donated from Oregon. 

The NBA, in collaboration with the Knicks and the Mets, has donated 1 million surgical masks.

Governor Cuomo will issue an executive order that allows medical students who are slated to graduate, to begin practicing medicine. No word yet on when that will take effect.
