In Friday’s daily address with Governor Cuomo he says there’s a lot to learn from the Coronavirus pandemic. Although it was a medical and economic issue, he says it was also a social issue.
Yesterday we had the lowest number of COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. 42 lives were lost, compared to 800 we lost in a day just 8 weeks ago. Cuomo says this is proof that the people of this state can change their behaviors dramatically and control the rate of infection.
Cuomo also discussed the “Say Their Name” reform agenda. It comes from the long list of names of people who have been abused by police and the criminal justice system. It includes 4 cornerstones.
- Transparency of prior disciplinary records
- No chokeholds
- False race-based 911 reports should be a hate crime
- The Attorney General as an independent prosecutor for police murders
