Eyewitness news spoke to County Executive Anthony Picente about the spike in the new number of cases. He tells us that this is because they are conducting more tests. Similar to recent reports from the governor’s office, Picente says what’s most important is the infection rate and percentage of new positives.

There are several new potential public exposures. For a full list please visit the county’s website

In today’s update, the Herkimer County Government Facebook page reported 7 new positive cases of Coronavirus, the total is 162. 22 cases are active, one patient is currently hospitalized, 4 people have passed away and 136 patients have recovered.

In Friday’s update from the governor’s office it said that COVID-19 hospitalizations have dropped below 1,000 for the first time since March 18th. On Thursday the state lost 17 patients to the virus and 1.1% of the nearly 68,000 residents tested yesterday came back positive.

Cuomo also released another statement that the New York State Department of Health is investigating two COVID-19 clusters upstate. One at the Oswego County Apple Packaging Plant, and the other at the Montgomery County Aluminum Manufacturer. The state’s tracing program helped identify these hotspots. In each situation there are isolation and quarantine measures in place for everyone who tested positive and people they’ve had contact with.

In Oswego County, 82 of the 170 employees tested positive. In Montgomery County 37 employees have tested positive and the 200 remaining employees are being tested today. Cuomo is reminding New Yorkers to answer calls from the Contact Tracing System and get tested if you experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

More Coronavirus updates will be in the daily briefing on Monday, June 29th.
