Correction Officer Application Deadline Dec. 23

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol would like to remind anyone who is interested in beginning a career with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office that there is a Civil Service test coming up for the position of full-time Correction Officer. The test will be held on February 11th, but the deadline to sign up for the exam is TOMORROW, December 23rd at 4:30pm. The Sheriff’s Office currently has 14 fulltime vacancies and will be filling those vacancies by spring of 2017.

Minimum qualifications to take the exam require you to be at least 18 years of age at the time appointment, you must be a legal resident of Oneida County at least one month prior to the exam, and you have to have graduated from high school or possess a high school equivalency diploma. Starting salary for an Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Correction Officer is $30,754 initially and then after successfully completing 6 months of employment, the salary adjusts to $36,181 annually. There is a $25 filing fee to take the exam.

Applications for the civil service test can either be found at www.ocgov.net under the “Personnel Department” or they can be obtained at the Oneida County Department of Personnel located on the 6th floor of the Oneida County Office Building at 800 Park Avenue in Utica. Specific exam details and requirements are explained on the exam notice. In addition, you can also call the Sheriff’s Office Community Affairs Unit at 315-765-2779 with any additional questions.

Sheriff Maciol would also like to remind anyone interested in a position as a part time Correction Officer with the Sheriff’s Office, applications are accepted by the Personnel  Department year round. Applicants wishing to apply would fill out the same application that those applying to take the test would complete. The Sheriff’s Office also has several part time positions vacant and recruitment is ongoing. There is no application fee to apply for a part time position.
