NYS Police Arrest Canastota Man For Arson


SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV)— Around 12:17 p.m. on March 26th New York State Troopers responded to a structure fire call on Pleasant Avenue in the Village of Sylvan Beach.

While investigating, witnesses told the Troopers that shortly before seeing the fire, a man ran along the side of the home and then drove away. The suspect used a gas can and spread gasoline around the residence and then ignited it. He then fled the scene in a pick-up truck.

A day later, on March 27th, Troopers arrested 38-year-old Nathan Riley in the Village of Canastota without incident. He was charged with the following:

  • Arson in the Second Degree (Class B Felony)

He was arraigned in the Village of Sylvan Beach Court and transported to the Oneida County Jail.
