State Police say that the man who opened fire on Troopers from a barn on Route 46 in Durhamville has surrendered.
SWAT teams from several different police agencies were called to the scene of a barricaded gunman situation at a barn at the corner of Route 46 and Walker Road in Durhamville. An armed man is holed up in a barn. His wife contacted police saying that her husband was upset and was in the barn with a gun. When Troopers arrived, the man fired several shots at the police.
SWAT teams from the New York State Police, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the Utica Police Department and the New York State Dept of Environmental Conservation are on scene. Drone aircraft were used by police in assessing the situation.
The 911 call was made by the barricaded man’s wife early Friday afternoon. She said that her husband was upset and that he had at least one gun. He was in the barn behind their home. State Police spokesman Jack Keller says that when Troopers arrived at the residence, the man fired several shots at the Troopers. It is not known if police returned fire. No one has been reported injured and the wife of the barricaded man is safe.
