During this time of year, some physical therapists say theysee in an increase in back injuries due to shoveling.
One chiropractor says there are some things to keep in mindwhen you’re removing the snow.
He says the most common mistake is that people bend forwardand twist their bodies when shoveling, whichcan result in hurting your lower back.
Instead, he says to push the snow forward in small amountsand take it slow.
“Something as simple as making sure you have the righttype of shovel… The ergonomic shovels if people have seen them those are theshovels that have the bent handles. They are bent so you can shovel whilestanding up right you don’t have to bend over as far again placing excessstress on your lumbar spine,” said David Kingwater.
The chiropractor also says to make sure you are warmed upbefore you shovel.
And he says the moment you have pain, stop and take a break.
