Another shooting on Walnut Street in Utica, suspect in custody

UPDATE: UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) – The Utica Police Department has reported that another arrest had been made in the shooting on Walnut Street.

30-year-old Malcom Cummings of Utica has been charged with the following:

  • Assault in the Second Degree

There are no further details, but Eyewitness News will continue to update this story as we get more information.

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) – The Utica Police Department is reporting that there has been another shooting.

On the morning of July 14th, 2021, UPD was dispatched to investigate a shooting that happened on the 1200 block of Walnut Street in Utica. When Units arrived, they discovered a man who had been shot in the leg.

During the initial investigation, police learned that a male suspect was seen fleeing into a residence.  A perimeter was set up around the area and the Metro SWAT was called onto the scene.

After the SWAT team arrived, contact was made with individuals inside and were persuaded to come out peacefully. Several people exited the residence, including the suspect of the shooting.

The victim is currently being treated for non-life threatening and the man accused of the shooting has been taken into custody.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the charges will be released soon.
