If you’re one of the many Herkimer County residents with piles of garbage, this is for you. Herkimer residents who want the village to pick up flood debris have until Friday at 2pm to bring it curbside. For Ilion residents, they have until Monday at 2pm. Law enforcement says those will be the cut-off dates for debris removal because of several issues they’ve been encountering.
“There’s health issues of the debris laying out over the weekend, we’ve had issues of people picking through the debris causing more of a mess for the workers that are trying to clean it up, and instances of of people who have used this to clean out their house and they weren’t affected by the flood,” says Chief Joseph Malone, Herkimer Police Department.
Chief Malone says if any residents impacted by the floods still need debris removal after Friday’s deadline, they can call the village office at 315-866-3303 and the village will still pick up their debris.
