It’s the season of giving and spreading a little cheer to those who are less fortunate. The Sangertown mall proudly hosted the 15th annual shop with a cop event this morning where children in need partnered with a cop to buy gifts for the holidays. 50 students from Camden’s school district, grades K-12 left class for a few hours to shop with a cop.
“So this is an exerience that we try to provide for students who may have not had a positive experience with law enforcement or come from a less fortunate background with their families and they need a little assistance with making their Christmas a little brighter. So we volunteer our time, some come on duty some come off duty and we’re paired up with a student and we shop with them for a few hours and let them pick out.” – Tara McCormick, Troop T New York State
“Most of the time they’re spending their money on their siblings or their parents and then they’ll buy something small for themselves. So we have to try to encourage them to buy things for themselves and treat themseleves to something because they’re so giving.” Tracy Hooker, Coordinator, Camden School District
The organizers of shop with a cop would like to give a special thanks to the sanger town mall and wish everyone a happy holiday.
