UTICA, N.Y (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Three former local hoops stars are making their presence felt on the national stage this collegiate season, a pair still playing in the NCAA postseason and one a name to watch for teams across the country.

Frankie Policelli (New Hartford/Dayton/Stony Brook) – The former New Hartford Spartan entered his name into the transfer portal on Tuesday after starting every game this year for the Stony Brook Seawolves. Policelli averaged 13.7 points over 33 games and added 9.4 rebounds as well, tallying double-doubles in 13 contests. The 6-7 SF is listed as On3 Recruiting’s #85 prospect to have entered the transfer portal this season and the #78 prospect still uncommitted.

Tyler Bertram (Cooperstown/Charlotte/Binghamton/UAB) – Cooperstown High School’s all-time leading scorer, Bertram is in his first year with the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers. UAB finished one game shy of an NCAA Tournament berth and was selected as a three-seed in the National Invitational Tournament, or NIT. Bertram has played in 13 games for the Blazers in his Redshirt-Junior season, including a 21-minute, 17-point game against Rhodes in November. With a win on Wednesday night over Vanderbilt, UAB is set to play in the NIT semifinals against Utah Valley, who defeated Cincinnati, on Tuesday with a chance to advance to the NIT championship.

Kaia Henderson (New Hartford/Ohio State) – In her true-freshman year at Ohio State, Henderson has 13 points in 13 games for a Buckeyes team that has reached the NCAA Women’s Sweet 16. After defeating James Madison in the Round of 64 and North Carolina in the Round of 32, Henderson and the Buckeyes will play Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies on Saturday with a chance to move on to the Elite Eight. That game is set to tip off at 4pm in Seattle.
