Sports Director

David Edelstein is the Sports Director at WUTR/WFXV/WPNY. A May 2019 graduate from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, David is a passionate storyteller who enjoys meeting new people, connecting with the community and sharing the sporting moments that bring us all together. David has experience in both broadcast and digital media, having filled roles from sports anchoring to news reporting to weather anchoring to producing, for which he has received various recognition and awards. David has worked on both the local and national scales, working for NBCUniversal for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and serving as the play-by-play and pregame and postgame show broadcaster for the Rockland Boulders baseball team on international television, local radio and social media platforms.
In his time in Utica, David has covered events such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown, the Utica Comets’ best-ever start to a season (twice! Including the record-breaking start of most wins in a row to start a season in AHL history) and NHL affiliation change, history-making runs for high school football and soccer teams, and standout, in-depth stories and highlights of local athletes of all levels. In 2021, David’s work received recognition from the New York State Broadcasters Association for Outstanding Feature Story, Outstanding Podcast, and Outstanding Social Media Personality. One of David’s sports stories was named a 2021 finalist for Best Sports Story by the Syracuse Press Club.
David is originally from Paramus, NJ, where he scored the winning run in his town’s fourth grade little league World Series (yes, ask for autographs). He was voted MVP of the Utica Frisbee Club for Week 2 of its 2021 season on May 23, 2021. David is an FAA Part 107 Licensed Unmanned Aircraft Pilot.
