Free massive drive-thru food giveaway at Redeemer Church

Coronavirus

UTICA, NY (WUTR-TV) — On Friday, at 12 p.m. Redeemer Church in Utica held their largest food giveaway this summer. Redeemer Church gave out about 25,000 pounds of food.

Redeemer Church in cooperation with Compassion Coalition through a partnership with Smith Packing helped feed about 1,000 families in the Utica area on Friday. Each car received meat, fresh fruits, vegetables and snacks.

“The unemployment benefits have still not been extended and so I know some people that are on unemployment and that can make them very stressful. When you don’t have money, you don’t really have food, generally speaking…I’m sure there’s a lot of people coming out and this kind of helps them with that anxiety a little bit — it gives them food for a little bit,” says Pastor Mike Servello Jr. from Redeemer Church.

Before Friday’s food giveaway, Redeemer Church has distributed 44,083 meals. The church plans to hold more drive-thru giveaways. There is no set date for the next one.
