10 Herkimer BOCES School Districts Will Close to Prevent the Transmission of Coronavirus

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — The New York State Department of Health and Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood met and decided to close schools and all extracurricular activities beginning Monday March 16th. The spring musical will still perform today, but they will not tomorrow. The SAT’s scheduled to take place Saturday March 14th have also been canceled.

Schools are expected to re-open Tuesday April 14th to mitigate the effects of Coronavirus for students, staff and the community. The following schools will be closed.

  • Central Valley Academy School District
  • Dolgeville Central School District
  • Frankfort-Schuyler School District
  • Herkimer Central School District
  • Little Falls City School District
  • Mount Markem Central School District
  • Van Hornesville-Owen D. Young School District
  • Poland Central School District
  • Richfield Springs Central School
  • West Canada Valley Central High School

All 12 month employees are required to work during the 15 day closure. On Friday March 13th Governor Cuomo said that school superintendents are able to decide whether or not their schools should stay open. The New York State Education Department continues to work with the governor’s office, the New York State Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Education to decide what adjustments, if any, will be necessary in the near future.
