(WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV)—Meet our first Remarkable Woman of the Utica area, Betty Karleskent. Betty is a business owner of eight years, works at the Sitrin Home in Utica and has been a nurse for 41 years. She has used her love and passion for the elderly and animals to drive her career and help others in the community.

Betty has owned Barney’s Angel’s in Frankfort for eight years. She offers daycare for dogs and cats, cares for special needs dogs and offers long term boarding. Betty often goes above and beyond for her customers. She told Eyewitness News the story of a woman who had a stroke and could no longer care for her dog. Betty took the dog in herself, even picking up the owner and bringing her to visit her dog.

“She’s an amazing woman. Especially with the COVID” says her sister Roxanne Lanaux, Betty’s sister as well as the person who nominated Betty. “As far as her nursing goes, her patience, she gets close to them. There’s nothing she won’t do for them.”
