Remember our furry friend Lucy? She’s the emaciated Australian Cattle Dog found severely malnourished and neglected earlier this week. Eyewitness News checked in for an update on her condition.
Lucy is doing so much better and it's only been two days. She’s being evaluated and nursed back to health at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
Lucy was found Monday afternoon in a trailer park in the Town of Trenton. She was 15 to 20 pounds underweight and you can actually see her ribs through her hair. She has open sores as well as urine stains on all four of her legs.
Animal experts say judging by her condition they don't believe she was a stray dog but instead abandoned after being caged for an extended period of time.
"A stray dog doesn't look like this, this was a dog that was probably crated somewhere for a long period of time and not fed, stray animals, loose animals, wild animals tend to find food and not have pressure sores on them, their nails don't tend to look that long, things like that, I mean and especially there's some things on the side of her, you can see the urine stains,” says John Treen, Shelter Manager at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
Treen says all of Lucy’s blood work came back normal and he believes she's between one to two years old.
Once Lucy gains back her weight and is healthy again, she will be put up for adoption. Treen says he expects that to see that happen within the next month or two.
