SU football team accepts invite to Texas Bowl

The Orange will play the Minnesota Golden Gophers on December 27th.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The Syracuse University football team has accepted a bid to play in the Texas Bowl on December 27th.

The Orange's opponent will be the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The game will be played December 27th at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Kickoff will be 6:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.

It will be the 25th bowl game for Syracuse and the third in four years.

"It is great to see an ACC-Big Ten matchup in a terrific bowl game," said Syracuse Head Coach Scott Shafer.

"I couldn't be happier for our senior class to have the opportunity to go to Texas and play a Big Ten school. One of the things I have enjoyed the most about this season is our seniors. They are tough kids who never give in. This is a perfect way for them to end their season and their Syracuse career – playing in their final game in an SU uniform in the Texas Bowl."

The Gophers finished 8-4 in the Big Ten this season.  The Orange finished 6-6 in the ACC.

Minnesota lost the Texas Bowl last season to Texas Tech by a score of 34-31.

SU last played Minnesota on September 22, 2012.  The Orange lost 17-10 on the road.

Minnesota leads the series 3-1.
