Its cold outside but that’s not stopping last minute shoppers from making the most it Monday night. Many stores are open late, if not all night, making is easier than ever for those who procrastinate of simply are hoping for an even better last minute deal.
The Kohl's in New Hartford is open 24 hours non-stop from now until 6 pm tomorrow for the first year ever. Last minute shoppers say they're grateful.
"It’s awesome because I have kids and I can't get out until they're in bed,” says Lisa Grieco from Utica.
"It’s really convenient for people who procrastinate their Christmas shopping,” said Tasha Peterson from Whitesboro.
And the procrastinators were out Monday night just 24 hours until Christmas Eve.
"I’m last minute shopping, my kids keep adding to the list so, I’m out and about,” said Jamie Cosimeno from Floyd.
"I’m doing some last minute shopping for my girlfriend, just got to get it done quickly,” says Aaron Zawko from Westmoreland.
Employees at Kohl's say the extended holiday hours are mutually beneficial, convenient for last minute shoppers and great for business.
“Oh, it's been busy, the customers seem to like it, they're excited, and they’re calling and asking if it's true,” says employee Liz Tuttle. “There have been people in here all hours, they're saying they're going to come at 3 in the morning, they've been here every hour on the hour."
Tuttle works in customer service and says she understands how important the extra hours are to some shoppers.
"We can't make more hours in the day but we can be open more hours for them to shop and people work, work two jobs and it's hard to get time to shop,” said Tuttle.
"It’s convenient for the people who work late in retail, you know they get out at 10:00 or 11:00 they can still do their shopping, everyone's working long hours,” said Cosimeno.
Other stores are hopping on the trend this year too, like Macy's in Sangertown Square Mall. Kohl's staff members say with the success so far, this may become the new retail trend.
"I think we'll do it every year, why not,” says Tuttle.
Kohl's is closed on Christmas day but they reopen at 5 am on Thursday and staff members say they'll be ready for all of the holiday returns.
