The president of the New York State Sheriff's Association made a special announcement at the Oneida County Board of Legislators meeting Wednesday afternoon. The Civil Division of the Sheriff's Office was awarded accreditation.
The road patrol and law enforcement divisions of the office are already accredited. Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol says the recognition is huge for his civil unit.
"It's a set of literally more than 100 standards to professionalize our agency to make us obviously as professional as we possibly can be, to reduce liability issues it's just a very professional touch to have your agency accredited,” said Sheriff Maciol.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is now the 25th out of the 62 counties in New York State to be accredited.
