Born and raised in West Utica, Alban Uryniak served in the New York Army National Guard from 1979 to 1985. He obtained a Commission in the US Army Reserve and served with the 414th Civil Affairs Company from 1985 to 2000. Uryniak was deployed on numerous exercises in North Africa and Europe and was called up to serve in the Gulf War. Eventually, he retired with the rank of Major in 2001. Uryniak was also an Oneida County Deputy Sheriff from 1980 to 1982. He was eventually transferred to the Utica Police Department in 1982 and retired as a Sergeant in March 2013. Uryniak recently celebrated 32 years of marriage with his wife Audrey, has three children, and one granddaughter. The grandson of two Polish immigrants, Uryniak now work at the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees to, what he says, pay back our Country for the freedom and life he came to know as a citizen.
