Voters in New York state have cleared the path to legalized gambling.

Voters said “Yes” to Proposition 1, which changes the state constitution to allow “Las Vegas-style” casinos to be built in New York.

57 percent of the voters approved the measure.

The legislature must still approve of the casinos.

None of the casinos will be built in Central New York.

The state reached an agreement with the Oneida Indian Nation in May to refrain from building casinos in 10 counties it designated as constituting Central New York.
