Faxton's St. Lukes and St. Elizabeth Medical Center are now closer to an affiliation agreement.
They have now received approval from the State Attorney General's office. The process hasn't been easy but officials say patients will see benefits.
They also say it will help simplify and improve the use of resources from both hospitals.
“We think overall it's going to stabilize the health care environment in our community because of the fact that we won’t be competing with each other quite as much…that we'll be able to manage the large resource of over 4,000 employees,” says Faxton St. Luke’s President Scott Perra.
Executives say the affiliation has the potential to add jobs in our area. They also say it will improve health care in the Mohawk Valley.
“I think certain services we may be able to offer that we don't offer today.
“I think it will tremendously improve care. Because you'll have one faciltity focusing on one speciality,” says Nicole Plato.
If there are no objections to the process, the affiliation can begin as soon as spring of next year.
