College is back in session and that means many students will soon be leaving for the "real" world, but there are important steps students and others can take to land that dream job right out of school.

That’s why WUTR Eyewitness News and a host of other sponsors are teaming up with Mohawk Valley Community College for the inaugural "Job Fair Extraordinaire."  It’s bringing together six colleges representing more than 21,000 local college students and alumni.

Today’s topics are the benefits of a job fair and the job hunt.

"You want to narrow it down by the major players in your industry,” said John Nehme, MVCC Career Counselor.  “So research who's in your industry, what employers hire your specific major, talk to alumni if you can.  We have all types of services and career services to identify what employers hire where and going to a career fair is a great way to talk to local employers and meet them.”

"Not only with just the connections, just to give me an idea of what's out there and I’ll be able to narrow down what I want to do after I get out of college," said MVCC student Ivy Pompey.

You can be a part of the first ever job fair extraordinaire.  It’s taking place at MVCC’s Utica campus next Wednesday, September 25th, from 2 to 8 pm. It will be held in the Jorgensen Athletic and Events Center. Students will be able to look for job and internship opportunities and Eyewitness News will be there every step of the way.
