Hometown Hero Kenneth Rieben

Kenneth Rieben was born in the Village of Whitesboro on December 5th, 1932.
Kenneth Rieben was born in the Village of Whitesboro on December 5th, 1932. At age 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and for the next two years, he served overseas before being honorably discharged in 1954. When Ken returned home, he had many jobs, including a position at Griffiss Air Force Base. In 1961, Ken married the love of his life, Mary Jo. That same year, Ken, his father, and two brothers formed Lawrence Rieben and Sons Inc.—a successful roofing and sheet metal business. Ken and Mary Jo eventually settled in the Village of Oriskany in 1965, where Ken has resided ever since. His wife, Mary Jo, passed away two years ago, after a blessed union of 50 years. Ken has three sons - - David, Paul, and Larry—that still run the family business, located in Whitesboro. He also belongs to Parkhurst Post 1448, Oriskany Lodge #799 F&AM, and is a lifelong member of VFW Post 6001. Ken spends his winters in Florida with many great friends, but when he's home, he enjoys spending time with his entire family, including his six grandchildren, being a part of the Oriskany community, and an occasional round of golf.
