Hometown Hero: Daniel Powers

Daniel Powers was born in Utica on October 18th, 1960.
Daniel Powers was born in Utica on October 18th 1960. After graduating from Whitesboro High School in 1979, he enlisted in the military to gain experience in law enforcement, see the world, and serve his country. He fought in many wars including Desert Storm from 1990-1991 and also fought in Bosnia from 1999-2000 and at that time also served as Military Police. He enjoyed serving his country and getting to travel, but Powers says it was tough being away from his children, Danny, Diane and Danielle for months at a time. In early 2000, Daniel retired as Sergeant First Class and started working at Marcy Correctional Facility as a Correction Officer in November of that same year. He now enjoys golfing, boating, and spending time with his family.
