Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords visited New York on Sunday to attend her first gun show since she was shot in the head in 2011.

She was joined by her husband, Mark Kelly, at the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair today.

The couple praised the show's organizers for agreeing to a "code of conduct".

The code requires vendors at gun shows in New York to comply with a state law requiring that all gun buyers submit to background checks.

"Now is the time to come together.  Be responsible -- Democrats, Republicans, everyone.  We must stop fighting," said Giffords.  "The nation is counting on you."

Giffords and Kelly also used the visit to press their campaign for a federal law mandating background checks for all buyers at every gun show in the nation.
