FNF Football Kickoff show Segment 1

Checking in with Class AA, A and B in Section 3.
OUR JOUNREY TONIGHT STARTS IN THE 2ND DIVISION OF CLASS 2-A, HOME TO THE TWO LARGEST SCHOOLS IN OUR REGION, THE PROCTOR RAIDERS AND THE RFA BLACK KNIGHTS.

2012 WAS NOT A BANNER YEAR FOR EITHER PROGRAM, WITH RFA FINISHING WINLESS AT OH-AND-SEVEN AND THE PROCTOR RAIDERS LIMPING INTO THE POSTSEAON WITH A TWO-AND-FIVE RECORD.
THE RAIDERS HOWEVER CAN BE PROUD OF THEIR FIRST ROUND PERFORMANCE, PUTTING UP 33 POINTS AGAINST EVENTUAL CLASS 2-A CHAMPION C-B-A IN A FIRST ROUND LOSS.
WHILE COMPETING AGAINST THE BIGGEST SCHOOLS SYRACUSE HAS TO OFFER IS NEVER AN EASY TASK, THIS YEARS RAIDERS SQUAD IS HOPING A MORE DELIBERATE GROUND GAME CAN HELP THEM COMPETE WITH THE BIG BOYS.

" WE'RE GONNA STAY IN BUNCH PACKAGES, MOVE GUYS AROUND ALOT. WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE OUR TRADITIONAL SPREAD OFFENSE THAY WE'VE BEEN IN FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS. WE'RE GOING TO BUNCH UP THE BOX AND STICK TO THE GROUND AND POUND. WE DON'T HAVE THE NAMES OF THE ATHLETES THAT WE'VE HAD IN THE PAST SO WE'RE GOING TO STICK TO BASIC FOOTBALL AND SEE IF WE CAN GET IT DONE." - JERRY FIORINI

" I THINK ALL OF OUR RUNS PLAYS CAN BE EFFECTIVE AGAINST ANYONE. AS LONG AS OUR LINE COMES TO PLAY, WE'LL BE GOOD. " - J'VON EVANS

PROCTOR WILL OPEN THE SEASON THIS FRIDAY ON THE ROAD AT CORCORAN.

NEXT WE HEAD TO CLASS A NATIONAL, HOME OF THE WHITESBORO WARRIORS AND THE NEW HARTFORD SPARTANS.
FOR NEW HARTFORD, THE 2013 SEASON WILL BE ALL ABOUT PUTTING SOME NUMBERS IN THE WIN COLUMN.
AFTER 2 STRAIGHT WINLESS SEASONS, THE SPARTANS RETURN A VETERAN SQUAD TO THE FIELD THIS YEAR AND HOPE THE HARD LUCK LESSONS OF THE PAST TRANSLATE TO WINS ON THE FIELD THIS YEAR.

" WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE GOTTA DO, WE GOTTA GET THAT W, AND THEN THE MONKEY IS OFF THE BACK AND I THINK THEN THINGS WILL START TO ROLL AGAIN. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE ATHLETES WE CAN PUT ON THE FIELD THIS SEASON, BOTH OFFENSIVELY AND DEFENSIVELY. WE GOT SOME KEY COMPONENTS IN THE SPECIAL TEAMS THAT'S GONNA HELP US I THINK THIS YEAR. AND IF IT ALL GOES WELL, WE'RE GONNA GET THAT W. " - TODD HOBIN

" JUST GET THAT FIRST W, THAT FIRST WIN. IT'S GONNA FEEL GREAT THOUGH, THAT'S GONNA BE THE POINT, THE WHOLE TURNING POINT OF THIS PROGRAM. " - BRIAN VERBICKAS, SR LB

NEW HARTFORD HOPES TO START A NEW STREAK, A STREAK OF WINNING AND THEY'LL GET THEIR FIRST SHOT AT A "W" AT HOME AGAINST CARTHAGE.

THE WHITESBORO WARRIORS LOOK TO CONTINUE THEIR ONFIELD TRADITION OF SUCCESS IN THE 2013 SEASON.
HEAD COACH TOM SCHOEN IS ENTERING HIS 40TH YEAR AT THE HELM OF THE WARRIORS FOOTBALL PROGRAM AND WHILE WHITESBORO HAS LOST SOME TALENTED PLAYERS FROM IT'S BACKFIELD AND SOME SIZE FROM IT'S OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE LINES,
COACH SCHOEN PREACHES WORKING TOGETHER AND THE IMPORTANCE OF GETTING OFF TO A GOOD START.

" WIN THE FIRST GAME. YOU KNOW FIRST GAMES ARE REAL IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY KINDA SET THE TONE. SO WE'RE GEARING FOR THE FIRST GAME, AFTER THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME OR ELSE YOU'LL FALL. " - TOM SCHOEN

" EVERYONE HOPES THAT THEY'RE PLAYING FOR THAT CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE END OF THE YEAR BUT FOR RIGHT NOW WE JUST HAVE TO FOCUS ON DOING OUR JOB AND AS LONG AS EVERYONE DOES THEIR JOB, WE SHOULD BE FINE AT THE END OF THE SEASON. " - LIAM MURPHY

THE WARRIORS HAVE MADE THE SECTIONAL PLAYOFFS 22 STRAIGHT YEARS, A TREND THEY HOPE TO CONTINUE THIS SEASON. THEY OPEN UP THE SEASON AT HOME AGAINST RFA.

NOW ONTO CLASS B EAST, HOME TO SEVERAL OF OUR WESTWARD SCHOOLS, INCLUDING ONEIDA, V-V-S AND CAMDEN.
THE B EAST, OR BEAST DIVISION WILL ALSO BE THE HOME OF THE NEWLY FORMED CENTRAL VALLEY THUNDER.
WITH SEVEN TEAMS PLAYING IN THE EAST AND ONLY FOUR PLAYOFF SPOTS UP FOR GRABS, THE OLD ADAGE "EVERY GAME COUNTS" WILL RING TRUE TO ALL THOSE BATTLING IN THE BEAST.

THE VVS RED DEVILS EARNED A SPOT IN THE 2012 PLAYOFFS FOLLOWING A 4-3 REGULAR SEASON.
THE RED DEVILS PLAYED AS AN EIGHT SEED AGAINST TOP SEEDED AND UNDEFEATED CHITTENANGO AND LOST THAT FIRST ROUND MATCHUP 42-6.
DEPSITE THE QUICK EXIT FROM THE PLAYOFFS, THIS SEASON'S RED DEVILS BELIEVE THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE SOME NOISE COME POST SEASON PLAY.

THE GOAL EVERY YEAR IS TO GET TO THE DOME AND BE THE BEST WE CAN BE. OUR COMPETITION IS ALWAYS GOOD AGAINST ONEIDA, CAZ, CAMDEN, THE NEW CENTRAL VALLEY TEAM. I MEAN, THERE'S ALWAYS GOOD COMPETITION. WE'RE LOOKING TO COMPETE AND GET TO THE DOME." - MATT MCCOY

" WE'RE GOING TO THE DOME. THAT'S THE HOPE EVERY YEAR, THAT'S THE GOAL EVERY SINGLE YEAR. IT'S TO MAKE IT TO THE DOME, MAKE IT TO THE SECTIONAL FINAL. SO EVERY PRACTICE, EVERY PLAY WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS THAT." - DANE CARLSON

VVS WILL START IT'S SEASON ON THE ROAD AT SOUTH JEFFERSON.

THE ONEIDA INDIANS ALSO FELL TO CHITTENANGO IN THE PLAYOFFS LAST SEASON, A 21-15 SEMI-FINAL LOSS TO THE BEARS BUT A DAMPER ON AN OTHERWISE SOLID SEASON.
FINISHING SIX AND THREE IN THE 2012, THE 2013 INDIANS RETURN A SOLID CORE OF BIG, ATHLETIC AND EXPERIENCED PLAYERS TO THE FIELD.
FOR ONEIDA, A SUCESSFUL SEASON WILL MEAN A RETURN TO THE DOME, AND PLAYING FOR THE CLASS B TITLE.

" WELL I THINK THE BIG THING THIS YEAR IS WE HAVE ALOT OF RETURNING PLAYERS AT KEY POSITIONS. OUR ENTIRE BACKFIELD IS BACK, WE HAVE A GOOD SOLID OFFENSIVE LINE WE'RE WE'VE GOT SOME SKILLED KIDS COMING BACK. THAT'S THE BIG THING, WE HAVE EXPERIENCE COMING INTO THIS YEAR. " - BILL CARINCI

" THIS IS MY FOURTH YEAR ON THE TEAM AND I STILL DON'T HAVE A SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP UNDER MY BELT, SO THAT'S THE ULTIMATE GOAL THIS YEAR. " - DAVID CARROLL

IF ONEIDA PICKS UP A WIN IN WEEK ONE IT WILL BE THE 100TH CAREER VICTORY FOR HEAD COACH BILL CARINCI.

AND THEN TWO BECAME ONE.
WITH THE MERGER OF THE MOHAWK AND ILION SCHOOLS DISTRICTS, TWO OLD RIVALS NOW FIND THEMSELVES SHARING A HUDDLE.
WHILE PASSIONATE FANS MAY REMEMBER THE GLORY DAYS OF THE MOHICANS OR THE GOLDEN BOMBERS, THE MESSAGE SPREAD TO THESE ATHLETES THIS SUMMER AND THROUGH CAMP HAS BEEN THAT OF THE THUNDER.
HEAD COACH JOHN COLE HAS PREACHED PLAYING AS ONE TEAM THIS PRESEASON, AND THE NEWLY FORMED CENTRAL VALLEY THUNDER ARE FOLLOWING THAT MESSAGE.

" REALLY OUR TEAM MOTTO JUST BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES IS ONE TEAM, WE WENT FROM TWO RIVALS, TO BECOMING ONE." - JOHN COLE

IT'S AN ODD PROPOSAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. BECOMING TEAMMATES WITH THOSE YOU ONCE BATTLED. BUT FOR THE STUDENTS OF CENTRAL VALLEY, PLAYING ALONGSIDE OLD RIVALS QUICKLY BECAME SECOND NATURE.

" WE HAD A FEW BARBEQUES AND SPRING PRACTICES BEFORE FOOTBALL CAMP. AND WE JUST IMMEDIATELY MESHED. THERE WAS NO ARGUING BETWEEN ANYBODY, IT ALL JUST WORKED REALLY FAST." - COLTON MAINE

" WE STARTED BUILDING THE TEAM RELATIONSHIP IN THE OFFSEASON. WE KICKED IT OFF WITH SOME SPRING PRACTICES, LAST WEEK OF JUNE, FIRST WEEK OF JULY. AND WE'VE JUST DONE THE LITTLE THINGS. LIKE WE DON'T REFER TO ANYONE AS MOHAWK OR ILION, IT'S EAST OR WEST. I WON'T ALLOW ILION SHIRTS, I WON'T ALLOW MOHAWK SHIRTS, IT'S GOTTA BE A PLAIN GENERIC T-SHIRT OR A THUNDER T-SHIRT AND WE'RE JUST TRYING TO BUILD THAT TEAM CONCEPT. " - JOHN COLE

PERHAPS THE BIGGEST SURPRISE WITH THIS NEW SQUAD IS THAT THE PLAYERS AND COACHES AREN'T AT ALL SURPRISED AT HOW QUICKLY THIS TEAM CAME TOGETHER.

" I HAD SOME SPRING PRACTICES AND THEN WE WEN'T TO THE UC FOOTBALL CAMP AND PLAYED AS A TEAM THERE. WE'VE ALL GROWN UP TOGETHER SO IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A CHANGE TO US. " - TYLER URICH

" WE HAVE MADE THAT A PRIORITY BUT IN THE SAME BOAT, FOOTBALL IS FOOTBALL. IT'S UNIVERSAL. THEY PLAYED IT THE SAME WAY OVER THERE FOR YEARS THAT WE PLAYED IT OVER HERE. " - JOHN COLE

SO WHILE COACH COLE CAN SLEEP EASY KNOWING HE DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IN-FIGHTING WITH HIS THUNDER SQUAD. ONE KNEW PROBLEM HAS CAUSED SOME SLEEPLESS NIGHTS.

" IN, I THINK THIS IS MY EIGHT YEAR AS HEAD COACH, NEVER HAD DEPTH. WE'VE ALWAYS HAD 21 OR 24 PLAYERS. WE HAD TO KEEP PEOPLE ON THE TEAM JUST TO HAVE THE NUMBERS. YOU KNOW, THIS YEAR, I'M LOSING SLEEP RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHO'S GOING TO START GAME ONE BECAUSE WE'RE SO COMPETITVE AS SOME POSITIONS. AND THAT'S A GREAT FEELING." - JOHN COLE

THE THUNDER WILL MAKE HISTORY AS THEY PLAY THEIR FIRST EVER GAME AT HOME, FRIDAY AGAINST MEXICO.
