Startling information tonight coming from Jevon Wameling, the father of baby Levon Wameling, who originally said his son vanished from his front porch back in May.

Now, a letter from Jevon has come to the surface, after baby Levon was found dead in the Mohawk River in September. Jevon was back in court today for unrelated burglary charges. Wameling entered a plea of not guilty. The people also added a new indictment of drug conspiracy charges.

But this was not the only story about Wameling today. The Utica Observer-Dispatch released a letter today that Jevon Wameling wrote to a reporter; Wameling now says his son died in his sleep. He apologized for not being "completely straight-forward" about the version of events he previously offered. He said, "I had my reasons" and "I was scared out of my mind." We spoke with Wameling's defense attorney after today's hearing.

"The letter predated my representation of him. Obviously corresponding with the media is not something we would recommend as a defense attorney.. If anything is going to trial, there will be a motion made to change the venue. Whether it will be granted is another story. But i think it would be very difficult to find jurors who haven't heard about it and formed an opinion, probably in this county and the adjoining counties," says Rebecca Wittman, Jevon Wameling's defense attorney.

Wameling is due back in court December 3rd. The Judge will hear motions on December 10th.
