Utica Zoo Celebrates 100 years

The Utica Zoo announced its 100th anniversary events today.
The Utica Zoo announced its 100th anniversary events today. The list includes old and new events including a white party gala that will raise money to finish the zoo's South America exhibit. Raffle tickets also went on sale today for a chance to win a trip for four to Disney. Utica mayor Robert Palmieri bought ticket number one of one thousand fourteen to commemorate the zoo's opening in 1914. The president of the zoo's board says these activities will celebrate the years of trials and tribulations the zoo has endured.

"The zoo's existence in the last 100 years has not always been great. It's been up and down,” says Joseph DeTraglia, Board of Trustees Director. “And in the last decade or so there have been some severe challenges but the board of trustees has risen to the challenge along with the amazing staff. We're definitely back and better than before."

The zoo and the chamber of commerce participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolize the beginning of the 100 year celebrations.
