Utica College Football Preview

A preview of the 2013 Utica College football season.
HELLO AND WELCOME TO ANOTHER EDITION OF FRIDAY NIGHT FEVER, I'M MIKE SPELLMAN.
WHILE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBAL COACHES AND PLAYERS EAGERLY AWAIT THE START OF PRACTICE ON MONDAY,  THE GRIDIRON GREATS OF THE COLLEGE RANKS HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE FIELD.
THE UTICA COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM IS COMING OFF ARGUABLY THE BEST SEASON IN PROGRAM HISTORY AND DESPITE SOME MAJOR OFFSEASON CHANGES, U-C HOPES THE PIONEER WAY WILL LEAD TO CONTINUED SUCCESS.

NATE STEWART
" WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PIONEER TO ME IS THAT HARD WORK AND DEDICATION CAN GET YOU THROUGH ANYTHING. "

THE PIONEER WAY IS A RALLYING CRY FOR THE UTICA COLLEGE FOOTBALL PROGRAM.  HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND THE WILL TO IMPROVE EVERY DAY IS PASSED DOWN FROM THE COACHES TO VETERANS TO THE UNDERCLASSMEN.

WILL PLUFF
" WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE HERE TO HAVE A CULTURE CREATED BY OUR VETERANS.  THERE GOING TO A LOT OF THE LEG WORK BRINGING THE GUYS ALONG. THEY KNOW THAT AS MUCH AS WE'RE TEACHING THEM, WE WANT IT TO TRICKLE DOWN AND WE WANT THEM TO TEACH THE YOUNGER GUYS AS WELL."

JOSH VISALLI
" YOU KNOW WHEN WE MATCH UP IN DRILL IT'S THE OLDER GUYS WITH THE YOUNGER GUYS.  KINDA TEACHING THEM EVERYTHING, RUNNING THEM THROUGH THE DRILLS.  YOU SEE LITTLE THINGS HERE AND THERE AND YOU CORRECT THEM. "

STRONG LEADERSHIP WILL ALWAYS HELP OVERCOME CHANGE.  ONE OF SEVERAL CHANGES THIS YEAR WILL BE NEW OFFENSIVE COORDIANTOR JIM KRAMER.

JIM KRAMER
" WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF THE SAME PHILOSOPHIES, WE'RE TRYING TO ATTACK AND PUT THE BALL IN DIFFERENT PEOPLE'S HANDS.  AND ULTIMATLY WE'RE GOING TO DO WHAT THIS PROGRAM HAS DONE FOR MULTIPLE YEARS AND THAT'S IMPROVE EVERY YEAR."

BLAISE FAGGIANO
" HE'S A LEADER, YOU KNOW HE'S A LEADER.  TALKING TO HIM FOR 5 OR 10 MINUTES HE'S SOMEONE YOU WANT TO PLAY FOR.  I KNOW I FELT LIKE THAT IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS, I WANTED TO GO PLAY FOR COACH KRAMER.  I'M THE RUNNING BACKS COACH NOW, I'M ON HIS STAFF, I'M WORKING FOR HIM. "

BEFORE THE TEAM TAKES THE FIELD THIS FALL THEY STILL HAVE TO FUFILL THE VACANT STARTING QUARTERBACK POSITION.  BIG SHOES TO FILL CONSIDERING HOW MANY OFFENSIVE PASSING RECORDS THE SCHOOL SET LAST SEASON.

BLAISE FAGGIANO
"  YOU KNOW CONNOR BUTKIEWICZ WILL BE A JUNIOR, HE'S BEEN IN THE SYSTEM AND HAD A GREAT SPRING.  HE'S A LEADING CANDIDATE.  TEDDY VANGALEN WILL BE A SOPHMORE BUT HE'S BEEN IN THE SYSTEM FOR TWO YEARS.  THOSE ARE THE GUYS THAT KNOW THE SYSTEM THE BEST, THEY'LL BE BATTLING.  I THINK COMPETITION IS ONE OF THE GREATETS THINGS YOU CAN HAVE IN THE GAME OF FOOTBALL. "

JIM KRAMER
" THEY HAVE TO BE THEIR OWN INDIVIDUALS.  I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT IN OUR MEETING LAST NIGHT.  HAVE YOUR OWN IDENTITY, PUT YOUR STAMP ON THE PROGRAM AND JUST PLAY HARD. "

LAST YEAR'S 6-4 OVERALL RECORD TIED A PROGRAM BEST AND FOUR EMPIRE 8 VICTORIES WERE THE MOST IN TEAM HISTORY.  WHILE THE PROGRAM HAS SEEN MANY CHANGES THIS OFFSEASON, THE ULTIMATE GOAL REMAINS THE SAME.

SEAN JONES
" OUR GOAL IS TO WIN AN EMPIRE CHAMPIONSHIP.  SO AT THE END OF THE DAY THAT'S WHAT WE'RE HERE TO DO AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO STRIVE TO DO EVERY DAY. "

THE PIONEERS HAVE A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SEASON.  A PROGRAM RECORD SIX HOME GAMES STARTING OFF WITH A SEPTEMBER 7TH TILT WITH LEWIS AND CLARK COLLEGE.  THAT GAME KICKS OFF AN NOON SO GET YOUR TAILGATES READY.
THE PIONEERS ALSO HAVE HOME GAMES THIS SEASON WITH ITHACA, BUFFALO STATE AND HARTWICK, AND A SEASON PASS TO ALL 6 HOME GAMES IS JUST 12 DOLLARS.
