We continue with our special series: Time to Care. Anna Field is a young woman battling a rare form of cancer. The disease has put her college education and life on hold. But friends, family, and complete strangers are making her fight a bit more bearable.
Anna Field has been donating blood since she was just sixteen years old - never knowing that one day her own life would depend on blood transfusions.
"One day I'm fine, the next day I'm getting routine blood work, they tell me my platelets are low," she said.
Anna was a MVCC college student pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse. That's when she was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.
"I'm still not completely with it that she has leukemia but you have to fight the fight with her," said her brother.
That diagnosis rewired Anna to drop out of school, undergo chemotherapy and get fifty blood transfusions.
"It makes me exhausted, nauseous, just run down," she said.
But throughout her battle - she hasn't been alone. Her Boonville community organizing fund-raisers, auctions, and selling shirts. And her family always striving to keeping her spirits high.
"Pretty much supported me in any way they needed to, even some days all it took was holding my hand," said Anna.
And now nine months after her diagnoses - she's in remission. But that doesn't make life any easier. She's just five days into two years of intense chemotherapy meant to keep the cancer away. Most days she's sick to her stomach, and even too weak to walk up stairs. Her mother Cindy is with her every day - but she's fighting a disease of her own, multiple sclerosis. She told Eyewitness News over the phone that her daughter is her hero. Anna has become that to everyone who meets her.
