Back in February Remsen’s Main Street looked like was packed with cheering and a welcome home parade.
And it was all to honor their hometown hero Erin Hamlin after she luged her way into the history books with a bronze medal win. Now Remsen is preparing for Luge-a-Palooza.
"It's going to be a lot warmer. That was an awesome time. Everyone was excited for her to come home. We're just looking forward to seeing everyone under the sunshine this time and it short sleeves," says Hobart Kraeger, committee member.
For those who couldn’t brave the blizzard for her homecoming…the Family and Friends of Erin Hamlin Committee is planning an all-day event in her honor. It begins with a meet and greet train ride from Utica to Remsen, a parade down Main Street, and a presentation with other surprises along the way.
"We have clowns, we have balloons, we have music every half hour right until 9 p.m. until the fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Basically just a big event all day," says Mark Williams, committee co-chair.
And when Hamlin is home in Remsen, one of her favorite things to do is to stop by the Soda Fountain for a sundae. And here she has her own very special sundae. With her favorite toppings that include Oreos, Reese's, some chocolate syrup. The Soda Fountain has donated all of those toppings including four pounds of chocolate syrup to create an Erin Hamlin sundae of Olympic-sized proportions.
"It's very cool. And it's Erin’s favorite and everybody else that hasn't had a chance to try it will have a chance to try it down at the park," says Steve Boucher, Soda Fountain.
She came home four months ago…but the Village of Remsen is making sure that Hamlin knows they appreciate their hometown hero.
