It's not quite Comets season yet but it certainly felt like hockey season Friday at the AUD. Comets Camp came to a close and kids got the chance to play a game like the pros.

"They’re really cool, I like the fights and I like it when they score the goals,” says campers Anthony.

"Awesome, awesome feeling really because I’ve actually been to a couple Comets games, but not a lot,” said hockey camper Ariel Williamson.

The games marked the end of Comets Camp, a week long program for local kids to work on their hockey game. Over 60 campers came out and got to end their week playing like a Comet.

"They get to play a game with the Comets experience, we've got the video boards going, the Comettes are here, Audie is here, and we got the score boards so we're ready to go,” said Director of Communications Mark Caswell Jr.

Kids say one of the best parts was being coached by some of their favorite players and some of the Comets say they remember going to hockey camps when they were kids.

“I was in their shoes many years ago and here I am today so it's nice to teach them some of the knowledge that I’ve learned over the years and hopefully get them to the next level as well," said Comets player Darren Archibald.

Campers say they hope this is the first of a long career of hockey games.

"I want to play for the U.S. Women's Hockey League," says Williamson.

And of course the fresh ice gets everyone in the hockey spirit.

"Everybody keeps asking, 'is it October yet, is it October yet? You know, when does the schedule come out?' We're right around the corner, we're almost ready for games and I think everybody's feeling it and anticipating it,” said Caswell.

This was the first year of Comets Camp but organizers say it was a success and they're already seeing an interest for next summer.
