FNF: REBUILDING THE AUD

A LOOK AT THE RECENT CHANGES TO THE UTICA MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM.
THE COUNTDOWN IS ON... ONLY 32 DAYS REMAIN UNTIL THE UTICA COMETS HIT THE ICE AT THE UTICA MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.
THAT MEANS CREWS ARE BUSY... FEVERISHLY MAKING FINAL PREPARATIONS.
EYEWITNESS NEWS REPORTER SHAUN KALETA TAKES US INSIDE THE HUDDLE AND INSIDE THE AUD AS HE GIVES US A SNEEK PEAK AT SOME OF THE BIG CHANGES.
"the great thing is that we are starting from scratch, we set how we want to do things, everything is new.  the bad thing about that is we are starting from scratch, we are building from nothing."

SINCE THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT BACK IN JUNE... THERE HASN'T BEEN A WHOLE LOT OF TIME TO TRANSFORM THE UTICA MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM INTO A FAN FRIENDLY A-H-L VENUE.
THE COMETS WERE ONLY GIVEN ABOUT THREE MONTHS.

"this is a 50 year old building.  it's been 20 years since we have had ahl hockey here.  the mandates, the requirements, even just the casual stuff you see at every ahl arena, this building didn't have.  so we are putting all this stuff in here to give you a top of the line experience."

BUT, JUST BY TAKING A QUICK GLANCE... CHANGE IS ALREADY VERY VISIBLE.
THE AUD'S WALLS HAVE BEEN PAINTED BLUE, GREEN, AND WHITE... THE COMETS' TEAM COLORS.
ALSO, CREWS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING A BRAND NEW SCOREBOARD OVER CENTER ICE -- SOMETHING WE CAN'T SHOW YOU JUST YET -- AS WELL AS TWO NEW VIDEO BOARDS.

"every ahl rink has this now, it's a techonology that's in every building and it's madatory at this point.  they will have different in game features, kiss cam, replays, all that kind of stuff you see at every nhl game, you will see here."

THE WORK DOESN'T STOP THERE.
THE ICE IS EXPECTED TO BE BETTER THAN EVER.
AN ICE EXPERT -- WHO HAS WORKED FOR THE OLYMPICS -- IS OVERSEEING THE ICE LAYING PROCESS.

"We started with a thin layer, we turned the chillers on, we painted, we put down the mesh which is the center ice logo and all the advertisement logos.  And since then, we have had a crew out there spraying layer by layer every hour on the hour.  We need a few more inches to go, but we are getting there."

EVERYTHING -- INCLUDING THE LOCKEROOMS AND NEW CONCESSIONS -- IS EXPECTED TO BE READY FOR THE COMETS' OCTOBER 23RD HOME OPENER... WHICH WILL KICK OFF WITH A SPECIAL "FANFEST."
AND NEXT YEAR... THE COMETS PLAN ON RENOVATING THE OUTSIDE OF THE AUD.
IN UTICA, SHAUN KALETA, EYEWITNESS NEWS.

THE UTICA COMETS HIT THE ICE FOR THE FIRST TIME *EVER* THIS SUNDAY IN CANADA VERSUS THE ABBOTSFORD HEAT FOR A PRE-SEASON MATCHUP.
